P&P-Part 3; Exercise 3; How space changes with light

Exercise; How space changes with light

I had to use two buildings and shoot them in two different ways. The first being a location that I can return to a number of times at different times of the day, with the same viewpoint each time and photograph it.
The second is to show how different lighting conditions suggest different viewpoints and composition viewpoints, that is to say, photograph it at different times of the day, with different compositions.

Tate and Lyle – Same position at different times
I chose this building as I see it outside my window everyday and even though it is not a beautiful building, sometimes in an odd way, it is beautiful. When the light bounces off of it during the day, it looks like a brilliant white colour and at sunset, the sun gives it that hazy pink colour.
It was interesting to see how the front turrets shadow moved in front of the main white cylinder, the way the sun bounces off of it at different times of the day and how a moody sky can change the way the building looks.

4.24pm

It was interesting to see how the light affected the building and created different tonal colours throughout the day. My favourite is the 2.55pm image, where the sky behind make a real difference in the way the building is seen.

London Bridge Station – Different positions at different times of the day
I chose London Bridge station as it is a place that I go to on a regular basis and that it has so many different viewpoints.
I composed shots of the inside with the outside light coming in and I think it gives a different perspective each time, not only due to the composition, but due to the lighting as well.

4.01pm

5.44pm

It’s interesting to see how the building is almost flooded with light earlier on in the day, with strong contrast and at night, the building almost blackens, even though there is light still evident, whether it is natural or artificial, it changes the buildings colour completely.
