P&P-Part 2; Exercise 4; Close and involved

Exercise; Close and involved

I have to use a lens length of 28mm or less, but use it as close to people as I can. I have to say with this exercise, it was extremely difficult, I decided to shoot at the Tate as I thought people would be far to engrossed at what they were looking at rather than me taking photos, however, this proved to be a lot more difficult than originally thought!.

People weren’t that interested in taking the time to look at the art, they mainly just breezed on through and at one point, I got told off! , I had to delete the photo, I would have asked that person but as it was supposed to be unaware, I didn’t want them to know.

The first photographs I took are a bit further back, so to build my confidence in doing this.

Luckily, the band they didn’t look at me for this photograph, but on the others they did, I managed to get an OK shot, but I wasn’t entirely happy with it as I felt rushed and uncomfortable. For all the other images, I decided to go inside the Tate modern.

So to ease in to this, I took this image of the girls looking at the painting; obviously this was really easy, as they weren’t facing me.

Another easy one for me, they were all sat down looking at their phones rather that the paintings, which I found a bit odd, but I think some of them had audio guides.

This one was a bit more difficult as the kids kept looking at me and said that I was taking photos of them, that was when I started to think I had chosen the wrong location. At least I managed to get something in this image.

This one was very difficult as they were moving and the room was very dark above but very bright below, I only managed to focus on the one child in the white shirt.

All of the images where leading up to this one, I was extremely close to her and luckily she was engrossed in her audio guide and didn’t notice me.

I like the irony that the beautiful Monet that she should be looking at and appreciating goes unnoticed, because instead she is stuck to a screen, I know it’s the point of a guide, I just didn’t know when an audio guide became a video guide!.

Throughout this whole process I felt extremely uncomfortable and the only good thing was people not walking in front of me, it was difficult as people decided to wait for me to take a photograph of the thing they thought I was taking a photograph of, when it was actually them who I wanted to take the photo of.
